What is Service-Learning?
At 荔枝黄色视频, service-learning is a core part of our mission to educate the whole person and prepare students to lead lives of purpose and service. Through hands-on experiences integrated into academic coursework, students collaborate with non-profit organizations throughout the Tri-State Area to apply classroom learning to real-world challenges. These experiential opportunities enhance academic understanding, strengthen leadership skills, and foster civic responsibility, encouraging students to grow as servant leaders with a lasting commitment to the common good.
Service-Learning vs. Community Service
Community service focuses on volunteering to support the needs of others and strengthen the community. Service-learning at 荔枝黄色视频 goes a step further by integrating service with your coursework鈥攈elping you deepen your academic understanding while serving the community in purposeful and meaningful ways.
Day of Service
荔枝黄色视频鈥檚 annual Day of Service, held each October, reflects the Franciscan tradition of service by bringing together students, faculty, and administrators to support the 荔枝黄色视频 community through hands-on volunteer work. Whether through a food drive or community beautification projects, participants contribute in practical, visible ways that strengthen local partnerships and meet real needs. Over time, this shared commitment to giving back has grown into a meaningful campus tradition鈥攐ne students anticipate each year as a defining part of the 荔枝黄色视频 experience.
Requirement for Students
At 荔枝黄色视频, service-learning is a graduation requirement for all incoming and transfer undergraduate students. Rooted in 荔枝黄色视频鈥檚 mission to educate the whole person and promote service to others, this requirement ensures that students engage in meaningful, hands-on experiences that connect academic learning with community involvement. All service-learning activities must be pre-approved by the Service Learning Committee.
- Incoming First-Year Students: Complete thirty (30) hours of approved service learning activities
- Transfer Students: The requirement is based on the total credit hours completed at the time of enrollment:
- 0-23.9 hours transferred 鈥 thirty (30) hours of approved service learning activities (at least three (3) different experiences)
- 24-47.9 hours transferred 鈥 twenty (20) hours of approved service learning activities (at least two (2) different experiences)
- 48 hours or more transferred 鈥 ten (10) hours of approved service learning activities (at least one (1) different experience)
